Welcome to " The Foodie Fix"
I happy to share my passion for all things that are sweet and savory, in hope that you too will find pleasure, joy and sustenance in good food. Your kitchen is a place to be creative and productive. Meals are meant to be savored and enjoyed. Good food is simple, fresh, seasonal and delicious. The Foodie Fix is a tool for helping you eat well and enjoy the process of cooking real, good food. It is my joy to teach, share and cook with you. This blog is ever changing, evolving and growing but the one thing that remains constant is how happy it makes me to read comments and emails from you, the reader. What started out as a place to share my constant cravings for good food has now turned into a community.
About me
Plating
intricate desserts at Spago in Beverly Hills is where my career in food
began. There was a rush in preparing hundred of desserts in one night,
in spinning batch after batch of homemade ice cream speckled with
thousands of vanilla seeds, in making cookies and cakes by the dozen –
and I was hooked; with no plants to leave, as I was on the path to
become a pastry chef.
In
an instant my plans changed as I found out I was pregnant with our
first. A shock as my husband and I thought having children would be
difficult or even impossible for me. We moved back to Washington from
L.A. and my journey into motherhood began.
Fast
forward five years to an entirely different sort of dinner service. One
that begins its rush at 5 pm rather than 8 pm. My patrons are one
husband and three young children who are rarely as patient and
well-mannered as the Beverly Hills elite I served prior to this new gig.
Feeding my family is the most satisfying and delightful jobs of my
life.
The
food I make for my family is simple, classic, and nutritious. Although
it’s easy to see my passion for pastry still exists as flour and butter
are main characters on this blog.
Along
with great food this blog provides a look into my life as I wade my way
through raising three young children while also feeding my passion for
food that started it all.
I appreciate your part in this journey and am honored that you’re here.
All photos were taken by me unless otherwise noted. I use a Canon 5d Mark II or a Canon A-1 when I choose to shoot film.

Hi and thanks for coming by! My name is Amu Ramesh @ Kavitha. I am a proud Indian, living in Hanover,Germany. I’m a self taught/ family taught/ taste buds taught cook ;). In my previous lives I
have been an Software Engineer and a lecturer, but for the last
two years I have been busy being Ramesh's wife and Bhumika’s mama. The common thread in all
this has been my love of food. You know you have a problem when at your
baby shower your relatives and family identify eating as one of your hobbies. Shhhhhh!!!. The least they could do is say it’s baking you know?
Cooking is truly my first love. I get immense satisfaction from a chewy Peanut Burfi, a Tea
Cake that is both firm and luscious or a muffin that makes even the dreariest of mornings seem a little brighter. I am not into froufrou desserts, at least not yet. Maybe one day.
I would not call cooking a love quite as yet, it still feels like too much work, but sharing it with you here makes it feel less so. Thanks for reading :)
I grew up eating mostly Indian food. I was born in Andhra Pradesh but am a Tamilian, of course, both of the states come under "South-India". I grew up in the kitchen in between my Mechanical Father, who makes a mean simple Yummy Chicken Curry just in few minutes and my Homely Mother, who makes really spicy Gongura and Homemade Pickles(eps. Avakai) . Between my kitchen loving parents, we had a finite range of likes – most lentils, some traditional stews, very few veggies, and next will be a fruit. My mother mixes up traditional and authentic recipes of both the states. Now that I am an adult and a mother, I am actively trying to change that because it is now that I truly understand how appalled my mother would be when we would argue that “a potato is a vegetable”.
(Note to self: must delete above paragraph when Bhumika learns to read. Will amend it to say something like, “when I was little I would get up every morning and say ‘what veggies can I eat today?” Yeah that sounds totally believable.)
Join me as a I cook a predominately Indian smorgasbord of food and bake up some hopefully yummy treats.
